The Amador Community Foundation was founded in 1999 by a generous donation from Mrs. Helen Fallis. Helen was the youngest of seven children, and born in South Dakota. Her parents died at a very young age and she was raised in poverty by her older sister, Peggy. She and her husband John moved to California in 1940 and retired to Amador County in 1977. Everything they had was earned with hard work. Helen loved this community. Prior to her death in 2007, she was an active volunteer for many local nonprofits. Helen’s siblings left money to her, and she wanted to share it with the community she loved. She dreamed the Amador Community Foundation would provide a vehicle for others to give back to this wonderful county of ours.
We connect people who care with causes that matter.
Simply put, the Amador Community Foundation improves the quality of life for the citizens of Amador County and their succeeding generations. How? We receive gifts from people who care, we invest these gifts forever, and we use the investment earnings to make grants each year to local charities. We connect local generosity with local needs.
