The Barnyard Animal Rescue Nest
The Barnyard Animal Rescue Nest established in 2018 is a 501(c)3 non-profit located in Plymouth, Ca., Our focus is on slaughter-bound horses/donkeys, injured off-the-track thoroughbreds, and local animals (horses, donkeys, pigs, turkeys, cats, llamas, cows and more) in need. Our mission includes rescuing, rehabilitating and finding forever homes to previously neglected, abused or unwanted animals, offering lifetime sanctuary to animals with limiting conditions and providing enriching, educational experiences to the community.
The B.A.R.N. strives to create animal awareness and promote compassion It is our joy and passion to provide educational interactions for children, learning of vocational skills for adults with developmental disabilities and community involvement for seniors, women struggling with domestic violence, individuals battling addiction and more while supporting the human-animal bond.
There is magic in the community collaboration to care for and rebuild trust in the animals. All age ranges and abilities give back to the animals and simultaneously find something for themselves; including decreased depression, increased self esteem, improved verbal communication, greater social skills, increased motor skills and an overall more positive outlook on life. Caring for, interacting, and learning about the animals is healing, therapeutic and provides strong reciprocal relationships. This is accomplished through activities including brushing miniature horses, snuggling with cats, playing musical instruments to chickens, reading to cows, or making treats for a pig.
We aim for dynamic growth in a safe place for both humans and animals from these interactions and formed bonds. Furthermore, we aim to build and foster new friendships amongst all members in our community through common goals and interests. We are inspired to continue our mission of improving overall well-being for animals and humans through mutually beneficial interactions.
